Clinical Psychologists support people from all walks of life, who may be struggling with a particular aspect of their mental health or psychological wellbeing.
Not everybody who accesses psychological therapy is struggling with a “mental health difficulty”. Some people benefit from using therapy to explore life goals, motivations, career challenges, how to develop a better work-life balance and so forth.
Who I help
Therapy is a safe space to allow you to explore the causes and maintaining factors behind any emotional, behavioural or psychological difficulties you are experiencing.
It can be an opportunity to learn skills and strategies to better manage your emotional wellbeing and make the changes to your life to enable you to live a more content, rich and valued life.
I can support clients with:
-
Anxiety (inc. health anxiety & generalised anxiety)
-
Depression & low mood
-
Low self-esteem or confidence issues
-
Sleep problems
-
Body image concerns
-
Panic attacks
-
Phobias
-
Perfectionism / self-critical thoughts
-
Obsessive and Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
-
Stress management (including career difficulties & burnout)
Trauma
I have received specialist training to be able to offer EMDR therapy for patients who are struggling with the impact of trauma in their lives. For some people this may be a one-off traumatic event that they have experienced, e.g birth trauma, road traffic accident or physical attack and for other people it could be a series of several traumatic events. EMDR has been shown to be very beneficial for reducing the psychological symptoms often associated with traumas.
Physical health difficulties
I have worked in the NHS for over 12 years supporting patients who are living with a physical health problem. My expertise covers:
-
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) / ME
-
Chronic Pain / Fibromyalgia
-
Cardiac rehabilitation
-
Renal conditions (including live donor transplant assessments)
-
Bariatric patients (I have experience with pre-surgery Psychological assessments)
-
Cancer
-
Terminal illnesses
Self / personal development
Some people seek therapy as they are feeling dissatisfied or disconnected with their life. Psychological therapy can help people think about their life goals, values and how to live more 'authentically' whilst providing ongoing support to explore any barriers or hurdles along the way. Using elements from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) can be very effective in supporting clients to live the best version of themselves and to strive for the personal growth they desire.
