Sessions and costs

Understandably you may have a lot of questions about what therapy will be like and whether it can be helpful for you. Please have a read through the FAQs below and feel free to get in touch with me to chat further about the next steps.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no set number of sessions; it depends on your individual needs and the nature of the work. At the start our work together we will plan for a certain number of sessions together and then review your progress. We can then make a decision about next steps.

How often will I have a psychology session?

Sessions are usually held weekly, especially to start with, however I do offer fortnightly sessions if that suits people better.

Some clients also like to have monthly ‘check in’ sessions once they’ve completed a course of therapy.

How long does a session last?

Sessions are 50 minutes long.

How much do sessions cost?

The cost of a 50 minute therapy session is:

£110 online

£115 in-person

Payment methods include: BACS transfer (24hr before session), credit/debit card or cash.

I am also registered with the following private health insurers: AXA, Aviva and Bupa. Please check prior to beginning therapy that your policy covers you for psychological therapy. You may be provided with an authorisation code that is needed for our sessions. (Please also check if you are required to pay an excess fee).

What if I am late, miss an appointment or need to cancel?

A minimum of 24 hours notice is required to cancel your appointment. Unfortunately sessions missed or cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will be subject to the full session cost. This also applies to clients using insurance policies such as Bupa, AXA and Aviva. Your insurance policy does not cover the cost of missed appointments

If you are late to your session we will only have the remaining time left from our arranged 50 minutes as I may have other patients waiting after our session.

Where do sessions take place?

Depending on your preference, I can offer:

  • Online video sessions (via Zoom)

  • Telephone calls

  • In-person sessions at my clinic room at 'The Silk House Therapy & Wellbeing Centre', Pickford Street, Macclesfield.

When are appointments available for me?

I currently offer appointments throughout the week; daytime and evening sessions are available. Appointments can be booked by phone, email or via the website contact form. If you wish to discuss your needs prior to making an appointment or wish to make an enquiry, please do not hesitate to contact me.

How do I make an appointment?

Appointments can be booked by email or via the website contact form. I offer a free of charge initial 15 minute telephone call with you to discuss your needs before booking your assessment session with me. There is no obligation to continue with therapy after the initial assessment session.

Are sessions private & confidential?

Therapy is a safe space for you to open up about your difficulties. I work to professional and ethical codes of practice and so all sessions are treated with the upmost respect, privacy and confidentiality. Confidentiality will only be broken in the event that I was concerned about your safety or that of other peoples, or if serious criminal activity was disclosed.

An important part of a clinical psychologist’s practice is to receive regular clinical supervision from another clinical psychologist. This is to ensure the best support both for the clinician and quality of care for the client. All discussions however are kept anonymised and I do not share your name.

What if I need help urgently?

I do not offer a crisis or emergency support service. If you need urgent care please contact your GP, out of hours surgery (111) or A&E department.
