Therapies
I offer a range of therapies tailored to the specific challenges you may be experiencing. Below are some of the techniques we may use in our sessions.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is an evidence-based approach recommended by the NICE guidelines to treat a range of different psychological difficulties including anxiety, low mood, stress, OCD and panic disorder. CBT explores the ways in which our thoughts, emotions, physical sensations and actions are all interconnected. By learning more about these patterns, the aim is that we can gain confidence and skills in better managing our mental health.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT is an evidence-based approach which supports people to take positive steps towards a valued, rich and meaningful life alongside the challenges that life can sometimes bring. ACT uses techniques including Mindfulness which allows us to observe our experiences in the present moment without judgement or critique. It has been found to be effective in helping people struggling with a variety of psychological difficulties including anxiety, low self-esteem, depression and adjustment to and management of long-term health conditions such as chronic pain.
Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)
EMDR is different to other traditional 'talking therapies'. It helps people to process significant events or traumatic memories from their past to reduce the impact they have in the present day. Traditionally it was widely used for the treatment of PTSD however more recently has been shown to be effective for difficulties such as anxiety, anger, phobias and OCD.
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
Compassion Focused Therapy was developed by Professor Paul Gilbert and aims to promote emotional and psychological wellness by encouraging people to become more compassionate towards themselves and other people. It can be used to help people struggling with a range of difficulties, especially low mood and feelings of shame or self-criticism.
